| Master Plan - Pine Bungalows Accommodations |
|
3.0 PARKS CANADA DEVELOPMENT GUIDELINES In 1998 a panel was appointed to address limits to development on Outlying Commercial Accommodations (OCAs). Parks Canada did not accept all the recommendations in light of the Ecological Integrity Panel Report, and considering new management plans and area plans. Development limits were communicated to Lessees via a letter from the CEO of the Parks Canada Agency. These, along with any additional site-specific environmental considerations make up the final development guidelines for the OCAs. |

Bungalow House Plan Details Born in southern California in the early 1900's, the Bungalow house plan was inspired by a quirky combination of the English Arts and Crafts movement and Far Eastern wooden architecture and quickly became one of the most popular small house styles in the country. With their low-pitched roofs with exposed rafters and rustic wood, stone or stucco siding, and welcoming front porches, these homes were designed to be grounded in the philosophy of simple practicality. Popularized by mail order home plans offered by Gustav Stickley, the homes' light drenched interiors feature open floor plans with few hallways and lots of windows including some made of stained or leaded glass. | Hewn and Hammered: Arts & Crafts Enthralls New Generations |

« Blue Slide Studio: Art Tiles in Point Reyes Station | Main | Forest Hills Gardens: an American Planned Community » Arts & Crafts Enthralls New Generations Philadelphia Inquirer Real Estate writer Alan Heavens had a good piece on the resurgence of A&C style(s) in architecture and design, and he's been kind enough to allow us to reprint it here. Big, boxy houses preside over the landscape of 21st-century America. But the modern design-meets-warm touch of Arts and Crafts cottages and bungalows seems to be more popular than ever, almost 100 years after the movement's heyday. Several new books and a new magazine about Arts and Crafts style are available now, and this fall, several new furniture lines evocative of the era will debut. "Certainly [this] has to be a reaction to the ever-increasing mechanization and artificialness of life, and specifically houses," says Bruce Irving , former producer of PBS's This Old House , now a renovation consultant in Cambridge, Mass. "The rise of McMansions, PVC trim... |

Inside the Bungalow: America's Arts and Cra... by Paul Duchscherer $21.45 The Bungalow Boom An Agricultural Community After enduring a particularly harsh midwestern winter of 1873-74, a group of people from Indiana purchased land at the edge of the Arroyo Seco and formed the San Gabriel Orange Grove Association. In 1875 they founded a town, and chose to call it "Pasadena." Pasadena, originally known as "The Indiana Colony," derives its current name from the Chippewa for "Crown of the Valley." Some orange and olive groves were already present on their land, and the Indiana settlers proceeded to plant many more, along with a large quantity of grape vines. |

| The Seattle Times: Pacific NW 10/01/2006: From Rustic To Refined |
|
JUD YOHO, the enterprising businessman who, in 1912, put Seattle on the national map when he launched Bungalow Magazine, encouraged his reader to "become the Bungalow Man of your Town." Thousands did just that. Nearly a century later, Paul Duchscherer, author of "The Bungalow," "Inside the Bungalow" and "Outside the Bungalow," has earned his place as "Bungalow Man" to a generation of homeowners and those who wish they could afford one of those quaint, cozy cottages. Just when you think there can't possibly be another book on the topic, Duchscherer and photographer Linda Svendsen have teamed up, once again, to provide insight into this common and much-loved American building type. The early-20th-century bungalow and its larger companion, the Craftsman home, continue to inspire residential architects and new-home-site developers nationally, while fostering a major industry in interior design and home furnishings along the way. |

| Bungalow Loungebar Review by Sean Parnell |
|
1622 W. Belmo (3200N, 1600W) Chicago (773) 244-0400 With the XTC song "Bungalow" strangely creeping through my head, I think of the Bungalow Loungebar. In June of 2002, Bungalow opened, providing a sophisticated yet relatively unpretentious lounge in a neighborhood that desperately needed one, particularly now that the Tiny Lounge is but a memory. While Bungalow doesn't have a kitchen, it still offers an impressive menu of the liquid variety served by some of the best bartenders in town. |

The Bungalow is a perfect "starter home" for dolls. You can attach this modular unit to any other Imagine My Place dollhouse, or use it by itself. It's designed along the lines of a studio apartment, with a self-contained kitchen and lots of special little perks, like the removable roof that allows you to have an enclosed second-story loft or a railing-trimmed rooftop that's fun to decorate for the holidays and to use for swimming parties in the summer. All the houses are an open floor plan style. |
